Course Synopsis

Thematic investing is an investment strategy identifying the long term economic, social and technological changes which set the focus of investing in sectors, stocks or even countries most likely to benefit from these themes. One of the biggest themes or megatrends at the turn of the 21st century was China’s industrial revolution. This revolution fuels the need for the massive consumption of all kinds of metals needed to build the super cities and massive transport connectivity in China when they became the factory of the world. This megatrend boosts the prices of hard commodities and the share price of mining companies.

Thus, identifying technological megatrends that are affecting the global economy today will lead to better investment decisions in choosing the right companies in the right sector or country to invest in. It will also cover the challenges and risks of thematic investing.
