Course Synopsis
Thematic investing is an investment strategy identifying the long term economic, social and technological changes which sets the focus of investing in sectors, stocks or even countries most likely to benefit from these themes. One of the biggest theme or megatrend were the emergence of the consumption boom in the United States in the 1980s and 1990s by baby boomers. This megatrend brought an exponential growth in demand for various consumer goods and services, automobiles and homes in the United States and also fueled the growth of exporters of these goods from emerging countries.
Thus, identifying consumption megatrends that are affecting the global economy today will lead to better investment decisions in choosing the right companies in the right sector or country to invest in. It will also cover the challenges and risk of thematic investing.
